Do You Have The Equipment To Do The Job Right?

How Cost Is Calculated:

There are (3) Different types of moves

1. Local move: 35 miles or less from door to door within the same state

2. Intrastate: 35 miles or more from door to door in the same state

3. Out of State: Anywhere in the 48 states.

Local Move: Charges are computed on an hourly basis for moves within the same state for distances up to 35 miles or less.

 Components of local move costs:

    1. Load and unload time: The size of the crew will be determined by your estimator.

    Hourly Rates:
    2 men; $98/HR
    3 men; $130/HR
    4 men; $162/HR
    5 men; $194/HR
    6 men; $226/HR

    2. Travel Charge: This is a flat charge at the hourly rate for the size crew you have for the men to go from Peacock to the origin house and then back to Peacock from the destination house.

    3. Packing charge: Peacock charges according to it's tariff by the unit for packing. For example, 10 units @ $10.00/unit = $100.00.

    4. Optional Valuation: Call your homeowner's insurance agent to see what kind of coverage you have for moving. The specific question you want to ask is whether you have coverage for moving damage moving the furniture from the house =>truck =>  house. Depending upon how the policy was underwritten will determine what perils are covered. For an in depth explanation of how the coverage works for a local move, click here @ Valuation is the technical name for the insurance you purchase from the mover. Every licensed mover in the state of Illinois is required by law to provide 30¢ per lb. valuation as a part of the hourly rate. What does 30 cents/lb. cover you ask? 30¢/lb. covers only complete damage @ 30¢/lb.

    5. Drive time: Drive time from origin to destination.

    6. Boxes: There is a $2.50 deposit/box with $2.00 refundable upon return in reusable condition. Instead of buying the boxes at the self storage place for $2.00, $3.00, &$4.00 for S, M, & L, these new boxes essentially only cost 50¢ each!

Intrastate moves: Moves over 35 miles door to door in the same state are classified as Intrastate moves and are charged per our own tariff on the weight of the shipment and the distance to be traveled. Boxes, tape and box delivery are free on all intrastate moves.

Interstate moves: All costs for out of state moves are calculated according to the 400-M tariff based upon the weight of the shipment and the distance traveled.

* Up to TWO WEEKS FREE STORAGE for ALL Long Distance Moves!!
* Boxes, tape and box delivery are free on all interstate moves.

The Eternal Question: What things can make the move cost higher in the end?

The most precise way to calculate the cost of any move, whether local or long distance, is to figure a standard set of pickup and delivery conditions. To see the list of Standard Pickup and Delivery Conditions, click here.

    1. Non standard P/U & Delivery conditions usually involves an increase in the amount of labor necessary to effect proper delivery of furniture.

    2. Not being ready.  Get the Readiness Checklist!

    3. Improper packing of boxes.

    4. Having the mover perform services in addition to those listed on the estimate => Always give the mover as much time as possible to be able to give you a new written quote for additional services to be rendered.

    5. Inaccurate information about the destination conditions. *I.e. forgetting to tell the estimator about a 600 ft. carry at destination will definitely lead to a higher price for the increased amount of labor necessary to effect delivery. => This is why our estimators will always obtain all this vital information near the beginning of the estimate so they can give you a realistic determination of  what the final cost will be.

    6. Extreme weather conditions can affect the accuracy of the hourly estimates.

What can I do to minimize the cost?

    1. Tell your estimator all the important points about the destination

    2. Notify your mover ASAP regarding any Deletions/Additions to the type of service you had originally quoted.

    3. Follow all packing and readiness guidelines (link) to the letter.

    4. Call Peacock 1 week before the move date to schedule a readiness check by your estimator 2-3 days before the move date.

Standard Pickup and Delivery Conditions Description:

Peacock Relocation Systems Inc. considers a certain criteria when calculating a quote for your local move. Your sales representative will figure the cost of your move based upon what are considered to be standard pickup and delivery conditions. Standard pickup and delivery conditions can be described as the following:

1.) From where the truck is parked to the front door must be 75 feet or less. Any distance greater than this will add to the time factor of your move. If for some reason there arises a destination situation which requires pieces to be brought around to the back patio door or some extra distance, the length of the carry and the number of pieces to be rerouted will incrementally increase the time factor and cost of your move. Note: stair carries and elevators will also increase the time factor and cost of your move.

2.) Physical displacement is another very important factor that directly influences how easily your furniture will fit out of and/or into your new house. For example, a house with very wide staircases, doorways and staircases that also has very little angularity to the architecture is much easier to move into/out of than some of the older houses with narrow doorways and tight turns.

3.) There is also a more individual aspect of physical displacement that pertains to a specific piece of furniture. There may be a piece that will not fit out of or into the house in its present state. There are several situations that exist at this point. First is disassembly that is additional by the hour if performed by Peacock. If disassembly is not an option ie the piece does not come apart, or the room was remodeled around the piece, the piece can either be left where it stands,(origin situation) or moved to another room(destination situation). If the shipper wants Peacock to force it, it can be done if the damage waiver is signed releasing Peacock from any responsibility of damage to the piece of furniture and/or to the house.

4.) A clear path in and out is very important at both origin and destination: At origin, if there is not a clear path in and out, it will take longer than the estimated amount because many things will have to be double handled, (i.e.; picked up and moved out of the way, then moved.)

5.) There are some situations where people are downsizing and doing the equivalent of squeezing 50lbs into a 35lb box. This also leads to double handling that equates to more time = $$$$$

Any excessive amounts of furniture that must go in the basement or furniture to be re-stacked into any situation other than a floor loading will take longer than if it were to go where it came from in the old house.
